Power System Protection Engineer / Relay Engineer Location: Joplin, Missouri Education: BSEE or BSCS Experience: 5 – 15 years in same or similar position Pay Rate: Salary – $65 to 90K per year, dependent on education, experience, and interview Seeking a Power System Protection Engineer with 5 – 15 years of experience performing power system (generation, transmission, and substation) protection, control, and communications design for high voltage (69kV or above) electrical projects. Salary is commensurate with experience and education. Responsibilities

  • Perform power system and substation protection, control, and communications engineering as part of a team to support turn-key engineering, project management, and construction services.
  • Work with client to develop scope of work and conceptual design for new and modifications to existing substations.
  • Develop functional design, construction drawings, relay settings, and equipment specifications for protection, control, and communications equipment in the substation.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to technical staff members for drafting, etc.
  • Provide coordination with clients, vendors, and other project parties to assure smooth and timely project completion.
  • Develop processes and procedures to enhance project delivery.
  • Develop client relationships.

Requirements

  • BS or MS degree in Electrical or Computer Science Engineering, a FE or EIT is mandatory and PE license or the ability to obtain within two years is desired.
  • 3 – 15 years experience designing protection and control systems (relays, metering and substation communications) for high voltage power systems and substations.
  • Experience with microprocessor based protection relays and substation communications.
  • Ability to perform system analyses, including relay coordination, grounding, short circuit, and power quality studies for transmission and distribution.
  • Ability to use software applications (ETAP, ASPEN, etc.) for relay coordination, load flow and short circuit studies.
  • Ability to prepare relay panel specifications and relay setting calculations.
  • Experience with advanced high voltage substation protective relaying, carrier schemes, telecommunications, and SCADA.
